Know more about Nimi Ravindranath

Painting has always been a passion for Nimi since childhood. A self-taught artist, she has explored and experimented with various mediums. Appreciation of her art work by many, gave her immense confidence and with her family inspiring and encouraging her, she decided to start an art school, open to all age groups in 1983.

This art school is very different from the others as it gives the students the freedom to dabble and experiment with any medium that they choose like oils, acrylic, watercolour, charcoal, pencil, glass, etc. and above all there is no age bar as there are students from the age group of 3 1/2 to 72 years and there are people from all walks of life who enrol for the classes. Students are mentored from start to finish with personal guidance to ensure best results.

Art Therapy is action oriented and taps into the creative process. This art making process is a normalizing experience in that everyone has the ability to be creative through art.

Art enables us to find ourselves and loose ourselves. It gives one confidence, increases self-esteem and reduces stress. One can express their thoughts and feelings through drawings, paintings and other forms of art. The whole process is designed in a manner that it helps immensely in relaxing the mind and the body and it is also a tangible treatment for various ailments like anxiety and other stress related problems.

Nimi has handled a number of autistic and mentally challenged children and has found that art has helped in their progress and recovery. Similarly those who have undergone trauma due to accidents, etc. too have benefited from the art lessons and therapy. It has helped many increase their level of concentration and also with visual problems.

She has had several workshops at various institutions like the Vidya Niketan School, Mount Carmel College, to name a few. She also travels abroad and gives talks on art as a therapy and has had workshops in the USA. She has a knack of getting her students addicted to art, which benefits them in numerous ways and calls it a Healthy Addiction!

To quote Picasso, "Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life."

Presently regular classes are held at her studio & at the Bangalore Club, Bangalore.

Paintings are available for sale and orders will be taken on request.
